EU Invests in Robots
IT Examiner (06/11/08) Murray, Dave
The European Union is set to spend 400 million euros on robot research
and development in the next two years, doubling its recent years' spending as
Europe attempts to avoid being left behind in terms of manufacturing automation.
Robotic manufacturing is expected to increase in the next three years by more
than 15 percent a year, and the European Commission says automation will be
important for making up for Europe's declining labor force, ensuring sustainable
production and minimizing resource waste. Approximately a third of all
industrial robots are made in Europe. The worldwide industrial robot market is
currently valued at 4 billion euros, according to the International Federation
of Robotics.
