Spark some fun
Anyone still looking for a fairly low cost yet powerful dev platform might be interested in some of the new stuff available on Sparkfun from Olimex.
The LPC2468 dev board uses the Arm7 LPC2468 processor and is capable of running Linux. The board comes with 16MB of RAM and 128MB of Flash. In addition it features a bucketload of IO options including 2x USB host ports and ethernet.
The board is only $122 bucks at the moment which is nearly $30 cheaper than the BeagleBoard. It might be an option given how hard it seems to be to get one of the Beagles at the moment. There are at the time of writing 5 in stock at Sparkfun so get in there quick if you want one!
SparkFun also have a slightly different model of the dev board using a different processor (I think it is equal in power) that comes with a touchscreen attached. It’s amazing to see these boards these days. The LPC2468 basically looks like a cluster of IO port mountings feeding into a giant slab of a chip from the photo!
Anyway, hope that helps someone. I’ll probably order one as soon as I convince my fiance (sp) that wedding rings are out of fashion. Everyone wears cable ties now! Everyone knows that!
